Obituary for Walter E. "Wally" Sebuck

Sebuck, Walter E. “Wally” of Hickory Hills, IL and Williams Bay, WI passed away on January 10th after a short illness.

He was born in 1942 in Chicago, IL and was the son of the late Walter P. and the late Lucille (nee Ladewski) Sebuck. He was a beloved sibling to Diana (late Dennis) Tarandy, late Gregory (Eileen) Sebuck Simpson, and Jeffrey Sebuck. He was a devoted husband to Roberta “Bobbi” nee Ranieri for 56 years and a loving father to daughters Christine (Patrick O’Connell) Sebuck and Kathryn Sebuck and his sweet kitty Zoe. He was a dear uncle, great-uncle and brother-in-law to many, as well as a heartfelt friend and counselor to countless others.

Wally graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, De La Salle High School, Bradley University and Northeastern Illinois University. He achieved two masters’ degrees and was a high school counselor and coach. He started his football coaching career at Spaulding Institute in Peoria and upon returning to Chicago in 1970, he was Defensive Coordinator at St. Laurence High School for five years. Throughout the years, he was head coach at his alma mater De La Salle, coached at St. Rita and also at Mt. Carmel. After various stints at Chicago public schools and a short tenure at Northeastern Illinois University, he began to volunteer at various schools in Wisconsin with his most recent coaching taking place at Big Foot High School in Walworth this past fall. For over fifty-six years, many student athletes received college scholarships due to his guidance and assistance.

For the past 25 years, Wally enjoyed riding his motorcycles and most recently took up flying RC airplanes. He also liked to watch sporting events in the company of his beloved cat Zoe. He enjoyed an occasional poker game, Star Trek film, or Fleetwood Mac tune. He often considered himself a “rebel”, loved the color purple as evidenced by his three “PLUM CRAZY” Dodge Challengers, and lived for the Weber’s chocolate cake with the cherry on the top.
