Prior, Shirlee
Shirlee passed away Saturday, December 26th at the age of 95. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Robert, as well as her three daughters: Donna (late Robert), Janet (Richard), Nancy (late Gerald), and the late Mark (Lee) Prior. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Robert (Betty), Matthew (Abby), James, David, Stephanie, Laurie (Michael), Amanda (Bryan), Rachel and Jackie; as well as five great grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Prior, numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Cyril and Isabel Peterman, and her brother Robert Peterman.
Shirlee attended business college and worked as a secretary, stopping in 1954 to focus on raising her family. She went back to work when her children were older, working as a legal secretary for a law firm in Chicago Heights for many years. She loved to travel and after she and Bob retired, they traveled the country from Hilton Head, South Carolina to Alaska! She loved to cook, bake, read, knit, to play bunco, play pinochle, and to teach her grandchildren new games! Shirlee was always musically inclined, she played the drums in high school, and piano from a young girl to well into her retirement. When her fingers could no longer work the keys, she turned to singing and joined the Woodsong Choir at the Franciscan Motherhouse in Frankfort, Illinois.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, funeral services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Her family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the care and concern given to her as she came to the end of her life. They would also like to thank all of her extended family and the many friends who have offered prayers or words of encouragement and concern to them during Shirlee’s illness and passing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirlee’s name to Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, 9201 W. St. Francis Road, Frankfort, IL.
