Rod J. Erdman, passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2020 with his family at his side after a battle with a muscle disease for the past decade.
Born and raised in Brighton park in Chicago. He graduated from Tilden Technical High school and after graduation enlisted in the United States Navy August 1948 thru April 1951 during the Korean War. He served as an Electricians mate on the USS BALTIMORE heavy cruiser and received the National defense service and Navy Occupation Service medals. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he pursued a career as electrical apprentice at Corkill Electric finishing as a journeyman with IBEW 134. Soon after, He was introduced on a blind date with Elaine in 1954 and Married for 65 years. He enjoyed watching the Chicago white Sox especially the year they won the World Series in 2005, loved watching college basketball especially during March madness. He loved to fish and hunt however; his Favorite past time was watching old westerns.
Loving husband , father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather. Survived by his wife Elaine P. Erdman, daughter, Kim Tannehill, son Dale Erdman ( Margaret) his late brother Ervin E. Erdman, late wife (Nell) surviving wife, Nikki G. Erdman, nieces Nancy Shackelford (Steve) late Ann Marie Powers. Five Grandchildren, Jennifer( Sal) Tina (Judeh) Eric (Tulika) Sarah (Mike) Rachel. Great Grandchildren Alexis (20) Mark (19) Isabella (13) Giavanna (9) Malik (18) Mazin (14) Ayah (6) Alina (3) Makayla (9) Shanti (8) Zack (6) Isaiah (4) Gionni (5) Great great grandchild, Cali (1).
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to ALSAC/ St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 st. Jude place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
Visitation Sunday 1-7 p.m.
Funeral Monday 9:15 a.m. from the Robert J. Sheehy and Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W 151st Street, Oland Park, IL to St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mass 10:00 a.m.
