Obituary for RITA J. READY

READY, RITA J. nee BYRNES

Rita J. Ready died peacefully at home in Orland Park surrounded by her loving family on April 10, 2007. Rita lived a life that was centered on family, faith and an abiding gratitude for a life that held many blessings. She was raised on the South Side of Chicago, where she and her three sisters were known as the ''''Beautiful Byrnes Girls.'''' In 1957, Rita married her loving and devoted husband, Robert J. Ready, and shortly afterward moved to Palos Park. Together they raised six children.
Rita was known for her sense of style and talent for throwing a great party, including the Village of Palos Park''s Bicentennial Celebration, which she and Bob co-chaired in 1976. She was recognized as a gourmet cook and gracious hostess. Many will remember her legendary parties and will consider themselves fortunate to have sat at her table.
Rita was a generous supporter of many charities and member of several Palos-area community groups. She also generously supported St. Michael''s and Our Lady of the Woods parishes.
Rita and Bob enjoyed 49 years of marriage and doted on their 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Bob and Rita traveled the world together and spent the last 30 winters at their home in Scottsdale, AZ. Her warmth, wit and devotion to her faith will be remembered. She was a beautiful example of a strong independent woman, wife and mother.
Rita was preceded in death by dear parents, Jack and Irma Byrnes; sisters Rosemary (Edward Cooper) and Dolores (Donald Swibes); and husband, Bernard J. Burke. She is survived by: beloved husband, Bob; devoted children Jane (Gerald Luckman), Julie (Walter Kay), Kevin (Cathleen), Robert Jr., Liz (Steve Mills) and Rosemary (Scott Logue); cherished grandchildren Kevin (Kimberly), Michael (Rachel), Patrick (Betsy), Sheila (Michael), Margaret (Matthew), Marita, Thomas (Christine), Meg, Brendan, Caroline, Michael, Jack, Ellen, Margaret and Natalie; great-grandchildren Abigail, Jane, Kevin, Jack and Courtney; dear sister Dorothy (the late Paul Mattei); and many fond nieces and nephews.
