Obituary for Karen M. Landis

Landis, Karen M. (nee Doyle) Age 65

Beloved wife of 30 years to Michael P. Landis.
Devoted mother of Michael J. Landis.
Cherished daughter of the late James and Mary Doyle.
Adored sister of Maureen (David) Gillott, Margaret (Patrick) Keane, Eileen (late Henry) Crawford, late Colette Doyle, late James (Judy) Doyle, late Madonna Doyle, and late Dennis (Laura) Doyle.
Dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Karen had an unfailing love for her family and was quick to form life-long friendships. She is survived by her husband Mike and son Michael. They lived most their 30 years together in Beverly. Karen embraced her life in the community volunteering at Barnard Grammar School and caring for many of her elderly neighbors. Karen especially liked living so close to the Rock Island line, giving her access to downtown, the south suburbs, and beyond. She especially enjoyed that it allowed her to travel the area widely without needing to own a car.

Known as"red" by many for her striking red hair; Karen was the fourth of eight children and loved being part of what it meant to be part of a large family. Attending St. Justin Martyr grammar school and Lourdes High School class of 1974.

She never hesitated in sharing her opinions and couldn't resist an opportunity for a joke. She loved all things Chicago (except that north-side baseball team, and even with them, enjoyed the rivalry with her beloved White Sox). Once you had the good fortune of meeting her, she'd hold you in her heart, fiercely supporting you in any way she could. Karen was very much seen as the life of the party, often showing up with a funny hat, headband, or fully costumed if she had the chance, just to bring a smile to anyone already there. Any gathering she attended only began when she arrived and often might have ended sooner, had she not kept the festivities going as she made her long goodbyes.

She is a legend who will live on in the unbelievable stories she was part of, the smiles she brought us all, and the great joy with which she embraced life. In time, memories of Karen may sound like tall tales, but those of us who got to share a bit of her life will know that no exaggeration could fully capture all she meant for us.
