Taylor, Joseph H. Age 86

Joseph H. Taylor, of Palos Heights, IL passed away on February 20, 2021 at the age of 86. He died at home peacefully and was surrounded by family. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 44 years, Joyce (Eriks). He is the proud father of nine children. Preceding him in death, daughter Lisa and son Joe (Vera). Survived by Matthew (Susan), Nicole, Sean (Ambra), Ryan (Bridget), Colin, Michael (Vasiliki), Zachary (Elizabeth). He is the proud Papa to his five grandchildren: Kyle, Conner, Samuel, Maxwell, and Mikayla.

Joe was born in Chicago, IL on March 2, 1934 to the late Joseph and Blanche (Murnane) Taylor. He is the oldest of four children. His siblings were Margaret Geringer (deceased), Kathryn Flisk, and Maureen Householder. His early education was at St. Leo Grammar School and St. Leo High School.

He was a member of the USMC serving in Korea and Japan during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on October 18, 1954. After discharge he attended Loyola University and went on to graduate from Loyola Law School. He worked during the day for 12 years as a bricklayer, a member of Local 21 of the Bricklayer’s Union, while attending college and law school at night. After graduating from Loyola Law School he practiced law for 55 years as a criminal trial lawyer. He was a former President of the Southwest Suburban Bar Association and while at college he was the President of the Veteran’s Club of Loyola University. He also served one term as an Alderman of Palos Heights and was the City Prosecutor for Palos Heights for 50 years, retiring at the age of 85, in February 2020. He loved his work and he loved his play. He taught scuba diving for 5 years. He was a licensed instrument pilot and had his own airplane for 25 years. He began running at age 50 and completed the Chicago Marathon and ran in the Marine Corp Marathon. He loved riding his Harley Davidson and was often seen riding it to court, dressed in a suit and tie. He adored his family, enjoyed his friends, shared in good conversations (with some exaggerations), and looked for the fun and beauty that life had to offer. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.

Joe was a very grateful and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous since August 13, 1977.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Seguin of Greater Chicago –
