Gaul, John J. “Jack”

John J. Gaul, known to family and friends as Jack, passed away on July 4, 2021 at the age of 96 in Sandy, UT in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Bruce Hugo.

Jack was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended school at Marmion Military Academy.

He entered the Navy in 1943, served in World War II in the South Pacific and was Honorably Discharged in 1945.

After returning home from the war, Jack was active in the St. Thomas of Canterbury Church Club of Chicago and was devoted to visiting and serving wounded veterans on Sunday afternoons.

He was an active VFW member, serving in the Color Guard and helping with fund drives.

Jack was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was also a member of the Cantigny Honor Club for Veterans.

Jack had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. in 1990 on the Honor Flight.

He married the love of his life, Joan R. Gaul, in 1955. and they continued to travel until the year before his death.

Jack served as an usher at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Florida for 17 years.

Jack was known for his sense of humor, loved to joke with family and friends, and frequently gave nicknames to people he met.

Jack is survived by his wife Joan and daughter Leslie Hugo. as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and son-in-law Bruce Hugo whom he loved and enjoyed.

He was predeceased by parents Joseph P. Gaul and Celina LeClerc, brother Joseph L Gaul and sister Loretta Gaul Mowat.
Visitation Tuesday 3-9 p.m.

Funeral Wednesday 10:30 a.m. from the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st Street, Orland Park, IL to Our Lady at St. Germaine Church, 9711 S. Kolin Ave., Oak Lawn, IL, Mass 11:30 a.m.

Interment St. Mary Cemetery
