John R. Hartmann, 66, died on October 17, 2020

John, a retired Lieutenant and Paramedic with the Orland Fire Protection District (1989-09) and the Alsip Fire Department (1979-89) died of complications from 2 rare neurodegenerative diseases which have afflicted him for over 7 years.

John was born in Joliet, Illinois on July 28, 1954 to William and Virgina (Condon) Hartmann. He attended Holy Family grade school, Joliet West High School and graduated from Northern Illinois University. John also achieved a Master’s Degree from Benedictine College through a joint program with Orland Fire Protection District. After retirement John worked with the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association as the Editor of The Gong magazine and with their Project Consulting Team.

John is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Kloubec), stepson Andrew Kloubec, sister Laura Orr, brothers Thomas (Dena), James (Nancy), Daniel (Juliana) and nephews Jeremy Orr (Sarah), Patrick Orr (Melissa), Benjamin, nieces Dana Dickey (Spencer), Kelsey and Haley. John was also a great uncle to 5 great nieces (Vivian, Caroline, Kennedy, Daphne, Renn) and great nephew (William).

John is proceeded in death by his father, William, his mother Virginia and his brother Patrick.

It is the decision of the family that there will not be a formal funeral at this time due to Covid. John will be buried at a private interment and a Memorial Service for family, friends and co-workers to celebrate John’s life will be planned at a later date when we can all safely gather to honor him and his life.
