
Joanne Marie Tammaro, 91, of Orland Hills, IL, died June 21, 2021, at her home.
She was born November 19, 1929, in Detroit, MI, to Mary (Pessotto) and Edward Sonego. She married Fred Tammaro on February 16, 1952, in Paris, France.
Joanne served in the Air Force. She modeled for selection of the first WAF uniform at the Pentagon after the Air Force separated from the Army. She was assigned to the newly organized NATO SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) in Paris, France, where she was a secretary in the Adjutant General’s office. When General Dwight D. Eisenhower left SHAPE to run for president, Joanne was selected for his honor guard. While in Paris, she met and married Fred Tammaro, who was serving in the Army, and had two children there. Her third daughter was born in Chicago, IL.
Joanne loved reading the newspaper, keeping up with current events and visiting with family. She was a devout Catholic attending St. Elizabeth Seton, where she was involved with the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Edward, her husband, Fred, and her brothers, Edward, Eugene and Ian. She is survived by her three daughters, Tami Walden of Lincoln, NE, Raelene (Don) Petersen of Lincoln, NE, and Teri (Paul) DeClerck of Palatine, IL, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral Saturday 9:45 a.m. until time of prayers 10:45 a.m. at the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st Street, Orland Park, IL to St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Mass 11:30 a.m.
Interment St. Mary Cemetery
