Obituary for James Thomas Driscoll

James Thomas Driscoll
April 29, 1963 - October 5, 2021

Adoring father of Kyle Thomas John Driscoll, whom he raised together, lovingly, with Karyn Margaret Grace.
Loving son of Kathleen Rita Driscoll (nee Curtin) and the late Dr. Thomas P. Driscoll M.D.
Dear brother of Dr. Rita Marie Driscoll M.D., John Thomas Driscoll, Mary Marcella Healy, and the late Thomas A. Driscoll. Fond Uncle to Mary Kate (Brian) Brown, the late Daniel P. Healy, Jacqueline R. Healy and William J. Healy. Great Uncle of Olivia, Amelia and Eleora.

James earned his Master's Degree in Literature and Creative Writing from Columbia College in Chicago. Never without a book in his hand, Jim's knowledge of literature and world history was truly impressive. Naturally, by being a voracious reader, he was known as the "master of trivia", regularly beating everyone as home viewers of Jeopardy and The Chase.
Jim was a Class of 1981 graduate of Leo High School in Chicago, and Class of 1977 graduate of St. Alexander Grade School in Palos Heights.
Jim loved the outdoors and held a great appreciation for all of the local forest preserves, some of his favorites included; Palos Park Woods, Swallow Cliff, McGinnis Slough, and Messenger Woods. He also enjoyed Dellwood Park, and taking drives out to Galena, Illinois. He would spend his days hiking and mountain biking and foraging for mushrooms. He liked to see how many different varieties and species of plants and animals he could identify in a given afternoon.
In his college years, Jim followed the band "The Grateful Dead" around the country for several years. He shared this love of music with his son at an early age, and later, got to relive his youth vicariously through his son, Kyle, when he was the chaperone for his son's punk rock band "The Frantic". James got to tour the country with his son for more than 3 years on The Vans Warped Tour and others, continually traveling the 48 contiguous United States, and sharing 1st hand his love of State and National Parks with his son, and teaching him about American History along the way.
Jim truly treasured his friendships, with friends who he considered family, especially Paul Harty and his wife Lynette, Keith Robinson who always had him laughing, and Rex Robinson.
Jim's final act of love was through organ donation, as he gave the gift of sight to someone else.
