Obituary for Howard W. McLean

Howard William McLean, age 93, WWII Veteran, Co H, 398 Infantry, 100th Division, aka the “Sons of Bitche” for freeing the town of Bitche in northern France in March of 1945. He was a Staff sergeant and recipient of the Bronze Star.
He was preceded in death by his bride of over 62 years, Kathleen “Cappy” McLean nee Flood.

Loving father of Karen (Dick), Howie (Marcia), Tom (Maureen) and Bill (Connie) McLean.

Cherished grandfather of Liz, Mike, Mary Kay, Brittany, Matt, Joe, Alyssa and great grandson Liam.

Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Howie and Cappy were original residents in the Scottsdale area, instrumental in establishing St. Bede the Venerable Parish, the Scottsdale Homeowners Association and the Scottsdale Little League, where he earned the name of “low ball ump”. He was a retired employee of the Chicago Tribune and a member of the GCIU #7 for over 40 years. He was a life long member of the VFW, Oak Lawn Elks 2254, St. Bede’s Holy Name, Tarkington, Queen of the Universe and St. Bede’s seniors. He was honored with Outstanding Senior and Golden Spirit Awards.
In lieu of flowers please donate to your special charity in honor of the man who “never had a bad day”.

Visitation Monday 3 – 9 pm.

Funeral Tuesday 10:45 am from the Robert J. Sheehy and Sons Funeral Home 4950 W. 79th Street, Burbank, IL to St. Bede the Venerable Church Mass 11:30 am.

Interment St. Mary Cemetery next to his beloved wife.
