GANNON, GEORGE

George Gannon, 96, (Oak Lawn) died Monday, February 11, in his home in Oak Lawn

He was born October 4, 1916 in Lecanvey, County Mayo, Ireland. He worked in England as a carpenter for a number of years before marrying his wife, Agnes Kilcoyne in 1949. The couple immigrated to the U. S. with their infant daughter, Ita, in 1951. He was very active in various organizations pertaining to and promoting Irish causes, especially those leading to a unified Ireland. He was a 60-year member of Carpenters' Union Local #13. George was a lifetime supporter of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and Co. Mayo Football.

Loving husband of the late Agnes “Aggie” nee Kilcoyne, devoted father to Ita Gannon, Mary (Ed) Zelasko, Patrick (Patty, D.D.S) Gannon, D.D.S., and Georgina (Kevin, D.D.S.) Boyd; Proud grandfather to Anna, Erin, Nellie, Madeline, Eilish, Clara, Maureen and Patrick.
Fond uncle to numerous nieces and nephews in the U.S., Ireland and Australia.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Austin, Joseph, Mary, Nellie, Peter, Peggy, Michael, Annie and Paddy. Visitation Friday 3-9 p.m. Funeral Saturday 9:00 a.m. from the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st Street, Orland Park. Mass 10:00 a.m. St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 10621 S. Kedvale, Oak Lawn, IL. Internment will be at Murrisk Abbey, County Mayo, Ireland at a date to be determined.
