Ermando left his family and friends in Italy at the age of 21 to come to Chicago for “an American Life.” He joined the Army and was stationed near Innsbruck, Austria. While there, he would travel through the Alps on weekend passes courting Adriana, his wife of 48 years. At the age of 26, he brought her to America to begin their new life together. He was an electrical engineer at NIPSCO where he spent 33 years, retiring as a Plant Manager at the age of 60. He loved to travel the world and enjoyed sharing stories about his adventures to the 82 countries he had visited. His favorite hobbies were traveling, taking pictures (he had thousands of slides), yard work, working on Math problems for fun, watching and listening to Operas and reading National Geographic, Time and History books. He was the first person to always lend a hand to help a friend, and he was incredibly dedicated to his family. He was always the life of the party and loved visiting and hosting parties with his Italian friends from St. Anthony’s of Padua in Roseland. Even during the final days of his beautiful and adventurous life, he still had his awesome sense of humor and intelligence . . . knowledgeable and conversant about any subject. Most importantly, he loved being a Nonno.
