Obituary for Daniel M. Plecki

Daniel M. Plecki, 84, from Burr Ridge, IL, formerly Orland Park, IL and Bonita Springs, FL, died on July 16, 2016.

In eternal rest, Dan joins his first wife, Frances (McMahon), his daughter, Janet, his parents, Anastasia and Frank, and his seven siblings, Joe, Frank, John, Josephine (Kwiatt), Margaret (Tobin), Florence (Ogarek), and Martin.

He leaves his wife Janet (Andreotti/McCarthy), two sons, two step-sons, three daughters, sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two siblings, and many nieces and nephews as well as numerous dear friends.

Dan, also affectionately known as Papa, will be missed my many, especially his immediate family: his wife Janet; his daughter Kathleen McIntyre and her husband Jim (Mac) and their children Carey Ferry, her husband Brian, Dan, his wife Stephanie and their twins, Landon and Erin, and Brian and his wife Valeria; his daughter Eileen Hacker and her husband Jeff and their children Christopher and Joseph; his son Daniel and his wife Corky and his children Abigail and Caroline; his son John and his wife Tricia DiPalo and his children Dylan and Danielle; his daughter Jackie Avila and her husband Quinn; his step-son Peter Andreotti and his wife Donna and their children Peter and Sophia; his step-son Paul Andreotti and his wife Katie and their children Paul, Sam, Francesca, Jude and Rocco; his sisters Anna Plecki and Bernadette Phillips and husband Jack; his brother-in-law Walter McCarthy; his sisters-in-law Jackie Heller and Arlene Gerritsen/Lambrigger and husband Rich. We all feel “ten feet tall” for having known such a wonderful man.

After graduating from Mount Carmel High School in 1950, he spent a year at Monmouth College and then entered the Air Force where he translated Russian military messages during the Cold War. After his military service, he began a new life marrying Frances McMahon in 1957 and shortly thereafter moving to Chicago Ridge, where they had six children. In 1967, Dan started a new business, Traylek Warehouse, which he ran for almost 29 years, retiring in 1996. The family moved to Orland Park in 1978. Dan courageously faced the loss of his daughter, Janet, in 1981 and then his wife, Frances, in 1993. He started a new chapter in his life marrying Janet Andreotti in 1997. They spent most of their time together in Long Beach, IN, Bonita Springs, FL and Burr Ridge, IL.

Dan had many passions in life including playing basketball and golf, fishing, telling stories of the “old days,” working on Sudoku and crossword puzzles, practicing his Catholic faith, saying the rosary and most of all partaking in family events.
