Ruiz, Christine L. (nee Castanedo) Age 72
On Saturday, February 20, 2021, Christine Louise Ruiz, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 72.
For nearly 50 years, Tina was the loving wife of Oracio “Rocky” Ruiz, a retired sergeant of the Chicago Police Department, and a devoted mother to their three daughters, Rachel Ruiz, Sandra Corona, and Jennifer Hanna. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Macy, Ethan, Violet, Ella and Elijah, and beloved mother-in-law of Alex Flaster, Rich Corona and Timothy Hanna.
Tina was the loving sister of John (Judy) Castanedo, Linda (Jorge) Menchaca, Michael (Patricia) Castanedo, Toni Castanedo, and the late Richard Castanedo.
She was a cherished aunt of several nieces and nephews, and a dear cousin and friend to many.
Tina was born on July 24, 1948 to Joe and Inez Castanedo and was the second oldest of their six children. She grew up in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, which would become the backdrop of her life. This is where Tina was instilled with a deep and abiding appreciation for family, where she learned the value of hard work, and where she forged friendships that would last a lifetime. She loved sharing stories about her childhood, her family, her friends, and events that shaped the woman she had become.
Many who knew Tina might remember her work ethic, which was extraordinary. With a high school diploma, she started her career as a legal secretary, and then worked her way up to Office Administrator for Pretzel & Stouffer, a large law firm in downtown Chicago, where she ultimately worked for 21 years before her retirement.
However, many more will remember Tina for her kindness, her generosity, her loving spirit, and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed. They will remember her smile, her laugh, that she loved to bake, that she loved music, and that she was happiest when she was on the dance floor.
Above all, they will remember the unconditional love and devotion she showered on her husband, her daughters and her grandchildren – all of who will hold her in their hearts forever.
