Obituary for Al Sistino

Alphonse J. Sistino, of Orland Park, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at the age of 92 with family by his side.

Beloved husband of the late Agnes Sistino (nee Beaudoin).
Devoted father of Pauline (Mike) Graziano, Kenneth, Raymond (Jill) Sistino, and Regina (James) Sibley.
Proud grandfather of Melissa, Nina, William, Joe, Sean, Isabelle, and Mary Agnes.
Loving brother of the late Joseph Sistino, Frank Sistino, and Louise Casalinuovo.
Dear brother in law of Rev. Andrew Beaudoin, Nancy Mattingly, Rosalyn McInerney, Dolores Tucker, and the late Hedy Gorey.
Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Born on May 27, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, to Alfonso and Elvira Sistino, Al was the youngest of four children. Inspired by his oldest brother Joseph, Al won medals in mathematics before enrolling at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College, master’s degree from University of Notre Dame, and a Ph.D. in physics from Polytechnical Institute of New York.

Among his scientific contributions to this world are the design of guidance systems for several Apollo space missions, a patent for a more humane spherical shot used by sportsmen, and work on magnetohydrodynamics at Argonne National Laboratory. In retirement he authored one textbook on electrical engineering a second on relativity and quantum mechanics.

Family and friends to gather Saturday, August 1, 2020 at St. Mary Church, 19515 115th Ave, Mokena, IL, for Memorial Mass of the Resurrection 12:30 p.m.

Interment St. George Cemetery, Guilford, CT at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215 would be appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Homes.
