Obituary for Michael Krapec

Michael Krapec, 72, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 12, 2018.

Michael was born on September 22, 1945, in Chicago, IL, to Joseph and Jean (nee Havlicek) Krapec. He graduated from Brother Rice High School in 1963, and went on to study business and play baseball at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN, graduating in 1967. On May 3, 1969, Michael married the love of his life, Jean Marie Dilger, and together they raised five children in Orland Park, IL.

Michael was a natural leader and used his gifts to help others. He led multiple teams and mentored countless young professionals during his 39-year career at Xerox, and he retired as Vice President of Business Services in 2006.

Athletics were an integral part of life for Michael; his passion and skill led to a life of coaching. He coached teams of all kinds and had a particular love of softball. The Orland Park Sparks and Orland Park Cardinals held a special place in his heart, but time spent on the ball field with his children and grandchildren were cherished above all.

Michael’s steadfast devotion to his Catholic faith was rooted in actions, not words. Many will recall his involvement at St. Michael’s Parish & School from 1978-2005. He made wonderful memories there, especially as a basketball coach. Most recently he was a member of Our Lady of the Woods Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife Jean of 49 years; his adoring children Debra (John) Gavin, Kerry (David) Mooney, Daniel (Joni) Krapec, Patrick (Sarah) Krapec, and Michelle (Tim) Moles; and his 14 treasured grandchildren Patrick, Michael, Joseph and Thomas Mooney, Jack, Timothy and Martin Gavin, Nicole and Rachel Krapec, Matthew, Maria and Julia Krapec, and Charles and Adeline Moles. Michael is also survived by his dear sister Jeanne (late Ken) Emerson as well as many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Sunrise Senior Living in Palos Park, IL. Michael and his family were blessed by your empathetic care and friendship.

Michael bravely faced an untimely diagnosis with Alzheimer’s Disease with unwavering faith and concern only for his family.
